Sydney Arts Events at Bondi- More than just a beach!

Flickerfest - January

If you're an Arts or Film buff there's no doubt you should kick off you're Sydney Arts events calendar in the New Year with a visit 'under the stars' to FlickerFest. Filmmakers from all over the world come to this Short Film Festival to exhibit their work. Flickerfest originated in 1991 at Balmain High School and has become renowned as one of the world's best short film festival's being accredited by the Academy Awards in 2003.

Movies are screened outdoors at the Bondi Pavilion before continuing a 3 month tour across regional and metropolitan Sydney.

Open Air Cinema - January to March

An experience not to be missed. During the summer months at the Bondi Pavilion one of Sydney's most exciting events takes place, its been described as an 'outdoor drive-in without the car'. This year the festival opened with the classic movie 'Easy Rider' you may also bring your own picnic to add to the ambiance of the festival. Other Music and Art exhibitions take place during the night.

A great way to spend a night under the star's, register interest early for next year as this event sells out pretty quickly. This festival is will surely always be on the Sydney Arts Events calendar.

South American Festival - February

February is Carnival Time at Bondi Beach. Experience the multi cultural roots of the eastern suburbs by attending South American Festival at the beach. Now in it's 28th year the festival showcases the best talent in South American music and dance in Australia.

Learn how to dance at one of the workshops in Tango, Salsa, Samba and Merengue. For those not interested in dancing, the festival still has a lot to offer with lots of varied latino acts like Capoeira and an arts and crafts fair. If you enjoy a bit of chilli the festival has over 20 food stalls.

The finale of the night will be THE BRAZILIAN SHOW with dancers and drummers, sequins, feathers, capoeira acrobatics creating and unique and awesome atmosphere.

Sculptures by the Sea - October to November

Sculpture by the Sea is Sydney Arts events at its best, this unique outdoor exhibition is the countries largest annual free exhibition of contemporary sculpture showcasing more than 100 sculptures along the coast from Bondi to Tamarama and Bronte beaches.

2008 is the 12th annual Sculpture by the Sea which will transform the Bondi to Tamarama walk from 16 October - 2 November.

Last year's pieces ranged from a giant man called "I sea" to a giant 'Wallaroo' by Nigel White made from scrap metal measuring 350cm x 180cm x 350cm to a lemon tree made from a clothes line
